Hair Chalk For Black Hair? Does that Even Work?

After we started this blog, we have got plenty of feedback from our readers who kept asking the same question:

“I know hair chalk works for brown hairs, but my hair is black (very black!), does hair chalk even work for my hair?”

We can totally understand the concern about it, it is tough to see the hair chalking trend around but can not make the decision to join the trend. So here (and once again), we are answering this question in this post.

If you want a simple and brief answer, then it is YES! Black hair girls can use hair chalk too.

And when we digged into the question a little bit more, we can see why our readers asked this question is because there are tons of rumours saying that hair chalk is not for black hair. Why?  After reading lots of posts on internet and social network. We found the main reason for this situation.

Lots of people use Pastel hair chalks instead of makeup pack soft hair chalk.  And it turned out the pastel chalk is not the good option for black hair. (I will tell you why later!)

The reason for this is because of the different ingredients of these two kinds of chalks. The pastel chalk has more volume of  calcium carbonate in the ingredients and the physical property will be more hard and rigid,  when you tried to rub the pastel chalks to your hair, with the same dosage, the color will adhere to your hair much less than makeup pack hair chalks(which is softer). And with the same volume, colors will show up easily on light color hairs(blonde, brown) but it is difficult to show up on black hair.  That’s the reason why many girls think pastel hair chalk does not work for black hair. The fact is the the color DOES stick to black hair, but it DOES NOT SHOW well.  See below picture:

The same purple color show up great on blonde hair but less on brown hair, think about it, if it is black hair, the look will be even worse.

So here comes the suggestion for all you girls with black hair: Do not use Pastel chalk, use Makeup pack hair chalks! (shop make up pack here), if you have any experience with hair chalking for black or brown hair, please do not hesitate to comment below to share your idea with us. We love to hear from you.

What is the best hair chalk color for dark brown/black hair?

We have got many feedback from our fans who said that the hair chalk color is not working for their dark hairs, some of them have black hair and some have brown hair. So here in this post we will share the experience with hair chalking for dark hairs.

so we already know that almost every colors works great on blonde hair. The questions, what are the best colors for dark hairs like Asian hair (almost black) or brown hair?  Or the question is “Does hair chalk even work for dark hair?”

the answer is YES!

While we are trying to explain the fact the hair chalk is not just for blonde hai but we did get many pictures from our fans showing that the colors do not show on their dark hairs. WHY?

The reason for this is that you have to pick the best colors for your dark hair. As proved, the best colors for dark brown hair are blue, pink and purple. The best colors for black hair is red, purple and pink, white (if yo dare!)

And as we know, there are two kinds of hair chalks: Pastel chalk and makeup pack.

We tested both of these two kinds of hair chalks, and it turned out the makeup pack hair chalk worked better on dark hair then the stick pastel ones.

We tried to find out why and the reason is the ingredients of hair chalks(although we do not know what exact in each ingredient make the difference), but the makeup pack hair chalks are more soft and the color   adhesiveness is way better than the pastel chalks.   I know many girls tried to chalk their hair with pastel chalk and followed the instruction to wet their hair or chalk first before applying. But for the round makeup hair chalk, you do not need to do this and the colors are showing great too.

Here’s some pictures of the dark hair with hair chalks we collected:

Where to Find the Best Hair Color Manufacturer?

We have got many queries from our customers about the subject” where to find the best hair color product” manufacturer?” And we have heard many positive and negative feedback about their current suppliers. And to answer the questions about “sourcing hair color products”, we decided to launch this post, if you are looking for some information about finding the best hair color products(hair chalk, hair dye, hair extension, ombre hair….etc) supplier, this post is for you.

Usually when we tried to find something, we can google it to locate the right place. But sometimes it is really hard to find the right information in the ocean of google results. But you spend more time on the subject you will finally get what you want. But here in this post, we are not talking about “Google”.

1. Alibaba.

Alibaba is always an option if you want to find some supplier for your business. It is not only for hair color products, but for any items(made in China!). There are tons of suppliers on Alibaba providing all kinds of service including Importing, wholesale and bulk buy or drop ship.

The only issue about this website is that it does not verify the vendors.  There are some quality suppliers who supply quality hair color products with decent cost, but here are also some individual business owner or trading companies who do not care much about the product quality and price, or service. So when you are looking into this website, you better keep your eye open and keep in mind to test your vendor and always remember to get samples before placing your order with them.

2. Aliexpress

Aliexpress is another website belongs to Alibaba Group. They provide small order service for customers from all over world. The point about Aliexpress is that they accept any order size no matter you want to buy 1 set or 100 sets or 1000 Sets. You can always find the seller willing to deal with you. But based on experience given by our customers, you better do not expect they ship the quality products to you with good business manner.  Because there are tons of sole business owners there who have no sense to make business better.  But there are tons of items which is truly exist, if you want to buy a small quantity, you may want to take your chance.

3. http://www.hairflairs.com/

This is a US based company who supplies good quality products for USA & Europe customers, their products cover hair chalks, feather hair extensions, hair crystalz, and hair ties.   Why I mentioned this company is because one of our customers has very good experience with them.

This is another US based company who supplies hair chalk products. They do ship worldwide with great quality products. And they also carry feather hair extensions, which domain is hairfeathers.com. We have been doing business with them for over 3 years.

60 years old mom hair chalked her hair to surprise her daughter in Xmas!

I have ever seen a 60 yeared old Mom (really cool BTW) dyed her hair with all pink hair chalks. The only reason she did this is because her daughter wanted her to do this. And finally before xmas of last year, She dyed her hair with all pink.

When I heard she said: ”I asked my 18 year old daughter what she wanted for Christmas and she said she wanted me to have lavender hair, so I did it to surprise her!” I was so touched  and I thought this was really a good idea and no doubt she is a cool mother.

What you think?

Does Hair Chalk work for Dark hair? (Black, Brown, red hairs)

Hair Chalking is all on trend now but some girls with black and brown hair are still not sure if the hair chalks word on dark hair. Here if you read this post you will find the answer on this subject:  Does Hair chalk work for Dark Hair(Black, Brown or red)?

I must say that if you have got blonde hair, then hair chalking is perfect for you, almost every color work perfectly on your hair. The multi hair chalk colors are very bright when rubbed on blonde hair.  But for brown Hair, not all colors are good for them. For example, if your hair is black, then you should avoid below colors:

yellow, brown, black, orange, dark purple. These colors have similar light spectrum as black, they will not look very evident on black hair.  The whole effect will not be good. Instead if you have black hair, you should choose hot pink, teal blue, light purple and lime colors. These colors are bright enough to light up the whole strands of hair and bring you the real hair chalking look.   Also I have heard feedback from customers claimed for black hair, the colors are not easy to rub on. This is some how true. In this case, I will recommend you to wet your hair first before applying hair chalks.  Because the water will make the colors stick to your hair sections much more easily. And also for black hairs, you should rub more colors on hair than blonde hair since the colors will “fade” faster than blonde. ( It’s not real faster but even there’s very few colors on blonded hair, they will still be very evident, but with black hair, it require more volume  of hair chalk colors)

For brown and red hair, I think the best colors are puple, hot pink lime and green.  As tested, the green color works great on brown hair. The reason is that the two different colors from hair to chalk can provide a binocular disparity. Like black hairs, you also should avoid dark hair chalk colors.

If you want the colors to stay in your hair more steadily and with longer time, you can flat iron your hair a little bit after rubbing on the chalks. This will help the chalk colors combining better with your hair. And make the chalk materials not that easy to fade.

Chalk your hair?! Yes,Chalking is the new trend!

First, models with streaks of pastel-hues rocked European catwalks and magazine spreads. Now South Florida stylists say this colorful trend has popped up stateside, with young girls and women brightening their tresses through “chalking.”

Chunky pastel sticks or other chalk-like products give tresses a new look that’s bright but temporary.

“I figured it was an easier way to color your hair without actually damaging it,” said Summer Halliday, 16, of Fort Lauderdale who added streaks of purple to her blond locks. “All my friends love it. I like it. It makes me feel happy.”

Users and stylists say chalking is fun and easy to do (it can be done at home or a salon). In the world of hair treatments, it’s fairly cheap. People are using sidewalk chalk from art supply stores, which can cost about $6 a case, or similar chalking-like products at their local salon for $15 to $45, depending on the salon and how much of the coloring product is used.

Alexander’s G’Day Spa and Salon in Fort Lauderdale is getting requests from mostly girls ages 12 to 16.

“But it’s been really good for office workers who are conservative who want to do something different,” said the owner, Alexander. “It’s a temporary thing so they can go back to work Monday and have a different expression.”

Singers Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez have helped spark the craze by sporting candy-colored tresses during performances. The look has also been a running theme this season on The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion,” with stylists giving the aspiring models makeovers with similar rainbow-dipped hues.

Former MTV reality star Lauren Conrad, who has a collection at Kohl’s department stores, has blogged about how to chalk on her site. Her February post has garnered more than 400 comments. Bloggers have also been posting online chalking tutorials. One video by celebrity makeup artist Kandee Johnson has drawn more than 790,000 hits since February.

“This is a way kids can try on hair color, and they can have fun without their mothers killing them when they get home,” said Mark Calderone, a hair colorist at the Dorjon Salon in Boca Raton, whose 23-year-old niece has tried the trend.

He recently saw the pastel color hair look at an Aveda event at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Models there sported soft bright-color hair from “baby-chick Tweety yellow” to cotton candy pink.

“It was really funky and cool. You could see the influence,” he said.

Of course, there’s one downside to chalking. “If you are chalking, just don’t get caught in the rain,” said Micki Mazza, a master colorist at Robert Allen Salon in Fort Lauderdale. “It drips and can make a mess of your clothes. I would definitely recommend that they replenish the hair with good products. Imagine how dry chalk feels on your hands.”
